[Lo-W] Blizbeaks

"Blizbeak" is word play on "blizzard" and "beak", coming from their hunting method and their very strong beaks. At least, someone put more effort in naming them this time lmao

Appearance:

Blizbeaks are very tall birds, being roughly 1.5x the size of an average Grifix (they are probably even taller than Sunset Stars) with their wing span being about 3x the size of an average Grifix.
They have a very big beak which is also super strong and sturdy to get through the thickest layer of ice.
They also have huge wings which mainly help them to stay warm in the cold. Their wings also have a much longer wing feather close to the wing base which aids them greatly in their hunting method. And they also, also have two so-called "wing claws" with which they can grab stuff.
Due to living in the cold, they developed a second set of feathering (coat/"fur") instead of growing thicker and warmer feathers.
They have strong, feathered legs which help them move through snow and very sharp claws to find a firm grip on snow and ice.
Their tail feathers are really short because honestly, they do not really need them. Their wings are huge enough to keep balance and the long wing feathers also aid in that regards. So, their tail feathers developed to be rather short and tiny.
When they fly at or above a certain speed, their eyes will emit a greenish white trail (think like the sonic rainboom, just less fancy again).

Colors:

Blizbeaks are always very lightly colored. Their colors range from white over light blue and purple to a very light grey with occasional light bluish and purplish accents.
Their bodies are also always two-colored. This comes from their secondary feathering underneath. Their primary feathering is partly see-through, so the color from the secondary feathering shines through and makes them look like they have markings on their body. Their wings do not have that. They can be two-colored, but don't have to be.
Their beaks are not always visibly separated from their body and can thus be the feather color. Otherwise, they are colored either in a darker grey shade (still a light grey though) or in very light/pastel yellow to red colors. The beak, and all claws/talons are always colored the same way.
The eye trail is always a green-ish white color.

During the night, they feathering becomes a very dark grey - the grey gets darker towards a new moon is and gets lighter towards a full moon.

Habitat:

Blizbeaks are only living in very cold areas. There are some sightings around the Crystal Empire, but they are usually found in colder areas, such as the higher levels oüüf the Crystal Mountains and the Frozen North, as well as Yakyakistan and everywhere else within that climate. It is rumored that they actually have a huge colony on top of Mount Everhoof.

Diet:

Blizbeaks are omnivores, due to the scarce prey in the cold, but they still prefer meat. The largest thing they hunt are polar foxes, but they stay away from grown Grifix - they are too tall and the Blizbeaks know: Grifix will come back to hunt them if they kill one of them. And yet, they aren't afraid to team up and hunt a Grifix cub out alone in the snow. No-one will ever know it was them, right?

Hunting:

Blizbeaks have a very interesting hunting method. With the help of their longer wing feathers, they create snowdrifts around their prey which will look like a full-blown snow storm to them. Some try to run away, but due to their size, a Blizbeak's "snow storm" covers up a larger area for the prey, so they very rarely make it out of there. Most of them just freeze up in fear and confusion and try to dig themselves into the snow, but never deep enough for the Blizbeak not to reach them.
They can also just keep an eye out for prey while flying high up and then just swoop down, but they prefer their snowstorms.

Sometimes, mostly during the winter when the prey is especially scarce, Blizbeaks will fly over the Empire to check if someone forgot their food outside. Most Grifix only see a white lightning striking the Empire when a Blizbeak swoops down to steal the food.

Abilities:

They don't exactly have abilities; these are more like traits they have.
As mentioned right above, they kind of have the ability to create a snowdrift / snowstorm, which - if they put the effort in it - could even confuse a Grifix.
Then, their feathers are extremely simple to dye, up to the point that simply coming in contact with a mashed fruit can color their feathers. (Due to that, they are also extremely careful when eating which would most label as them being vain.)

History:

As far as the Grifix could observe, these birds have been living in the Frozen North since forever.
Some find it very interesting that both Blizbeaks and Changeling Birds have this eye trail when moving super fast, but they don't see a connection there.

What Grifix Use Them For:

Now, these birds for sure can't be kept as pets, they are way to wild for that. There had been some secret attempts to domesticate them within the Empire to have a steady supply of... basically everything about them, but that failed horribly.
Generally though, Grifix use their feathers for literally everything, also due to being extraordinarily easy to dye. They are not used for stuffs that help one to stay warm, but for literally everything else. The long wig feathers are usually just used for decoration though, whereas the short feathers are used anywhere.
Their beaks, talons, and wing claws are used for weapons due to being very sharp and sturdy and as they are coming from birds accustomed to the cold, these also have a high durability in the cold.
And honestly, their meat also tastes great.
(And yet, they do not hunt Blizbeaks too often - if they do, they usually only hunt Blizbeaks that are alone - because they know: Blizbeaks will come back for revenge if they kill one of their kind.)
