[Lo-W2] Dirt Squeaker (Create a creature challenge)
Dirt Squeakers (Lutum wahlbergii) is a species of underveloped frog that lives in dirt tunnels and small muddy ponds. These frogs never grew in their backlegs and keep their tails until adulthood, in fact the older they get the longer their tail grows. They are similar to axolotls in this sense.
Both males and females look pretty similar in appearance and colouration. Both can be found in dark blacks or browns. However, females are slightly larger. They are not great swimmers and prefer living in muddy tunnels or shallow muddy pools. They use their short claws to dig out their tunnels. When moving they will drag themselves forward, they are pretty slow so they rely on their camouflage to protect them from predators. Their second method of warding off predators is producing a loud squeal in hopes the noise will chase them off. On average they are 3 centimeters big.
During the mating season males will surface and croak until a female answers their call, where the males will latch onto the female until she produces eggs so they can be fertilized. After this the female will go back to their dirt tunnel and produce a mucus filled hole for the eggs to develop.
These creatures are a delicacy among grifix and are caught to be eaten, often cooked on a fire. Their eggs are also used in certain foods.
