Stories of the Stars - Satra I

Satra grew up in the Crystal Orphanage, amongst many other fillies like her. Unlike them, she preferred to play all by herself, read books and such. But she was no nerd, she desired not the company of others, she just enjoyed far too much by herself. Some tried to bully her, only to regret it later. So now they all just kind of avoided her, only occasionally calling her a freak.

The caretakers tried to care for her like for the other children, but she could sense they would rather not have her there. That thing did hurt her. Why were they lying to her?

One night, as she looked out the window, she was a strange pony walking out on the street. He had muted, earth toned colors like none she had seen before in the Crystal Empire. And his coat wasn’t even shimmery, like those of the crystal ponies. She didn’t even know that was possible, she never saw anybody from the outside before.

As she was staring at him from her window, he suddenly turned around and faced her, staring right into her eyes. Frightened, she hid under her window. He certainly saw her, and she was strangely scared by that thought. She wasn’t the kind to freak out, she wasn’t typically afraid of things such as bugs, spiders or darkness, she wasn’t even afraid of death. But something about that stallion creeped her out.

The following day, while she was hanging out in the common room, drawing alone in the corner, she heard someone walk in, and the caretakers talking to that someone. When she raised her eyes to see what was going on, she saw him. He was talking to the caretakers about making an adoption. For a moment, he looked right at her, and then carried on.

“Do you have one that is perhaps more quiet and not so close to the others? I feel like such a personality would fit better with my… lifestyle.” she overheard him.

Of course, the caretakers took him right to her. She acted like usual, seeming uninterested in him, hoping he’ll leave her be. Usually if she did that, any potential adopter would eventually walk away. But he did no such thing.
“Yes, I am sure this is the one. I’d like to get started with the adoption process as soon as possible.”

Usually, adopting someone took days, if not months, But she could feel them eager to get rid of her.

She could sense that she was never going to sleep again in her orphanage bed.
