‘Hey, Selena, can you see? The village, it’s all visible from up here.’ The dark Queen stood near the window, as inviting her to come and watch. That day she called Selenara to go in the highest tower of the castle. She had never been there before.

Selenara got close to the window, and reached with her paws for the sill so she could get up on her back feet and look outside. As her gaze rose above the sill, an immense view spread before her eyes, the village seemed so small, surrounded by the dark immense forest. She couldn’t even see the end of it. Far away she could see the towers of something that looked like another castle. In another side she could see some tall mountains, but they seemed farther than she ever imagined the world could go. From the top of the highest peak a flickering light seemed to come, but so weak as it might’ve been just an impression.

‘You see, the world is so big... and yet what we rule over is so small. But it is important. And you must never forget that. For this place, is the only one that truly matters for us. And we must protect it.’ The Queen’s gaze went down above the Village. Selenara then looked down too.

There were small houses, crowded together. Their roofs covered in grey reed. They gave off a kind of sad vibe, and all seemed grey and shabby. But the streets were lively with colorful grifix, that seemed to not even see the grey world around them. They all seemed so happy, contrasting the houses around them.

‘I forgot. I forgot how important this place was. I tried to turn it into something else. I tried to reach the outside world, and I hurt those that knew what was important. I brought misery to all that lived here. But they never forgot. It took me a long time, but I remembered. Still, the scars that I left must heal. I hope that in the time of your reign, they will one day heal. And this place will once more reflect what’s in their hearts. Cause if they’re happy, you will be too. And you’ll find a friend in everyone around you. Don’t make the same mistake I did, alright? They deserve to be happy again.’

The young Queen was left staring at the village. She couldn’t fully understand the words of her mentor, but they kept echoing inside her head. She felt like she had to remember all that, until one day when she’ll be able to understand it. And then she’ll do what was right.
