Stories of the Stars: Minerva Moon I

The sound of the forest surrounded her. The chirping of the birds, the crickets, the leaves blown by a soft breeze… all was perfectly harmonizing, but she had other thoughts, that covered all the sounds around her. She didn’t even notice the sound of the steps of the approaching grifix, only after she layed down right next to her. She wasn’t surprised however, she soon recognized the smell of her pair.

“What are you doing here so far from the village, Minerva, it took me so long to find you! You know we have an appointment with Eclipsa soon, you can’t just go missing!”

“Huh… there’s still time.” She replied.

“Well yeah, but you know how you just go forgetting about everything! Time has no meaning for you! Ugh… whatever… I’m here now so I’ll take care of you not to forget.” The mare spoke. “Still wondering about what the Stars are thinking?” She added after a little pause.

“Yeah…” Minerva raised her eyes to the sky. “You know as well as me, if they pretend to know the future, they should’ve chosen another queen. And it wouldn’t even be the first time.”

“Oof, Minerva, you think too much! Nobody can know all that will happen! Besides, they’re just dead grifix, not gods! The future has so many possibilities, nobody can prevent everything wrong from happening.”

“True. But then they’re nothing better than us. They’re not worth worshiping.”

“Whatever. I doubt any of us can change that, you should just live with it. Come on! We gotta get going or we’ll be late.”

The two mares stood up and started walking together towards the village.

“Are you gonna ask her again about letting you become a warrior?” Asked Minerva.

“She’ll let me eventually. I won’t let her be unless she does!”

“Still, she’s dangerous… you should be more careful.”

“Hah, look at you, suddenly pretending to care about me!”

“Of course I care about you! I love you!”

“Hahaha, I know, don’t worry!” The mare rubbed her muzzle on Minerva’s cheek. “It’s gonna be all ok. She may not show it, but the truth is we’re the closest grifix to the Queen in the whole village. She must care about us at least a bit!”

“You see the good in everyone, don’t you? Fine, but promise me you’ll be careful.”

“Alright! I will be.”

‘ECLIPSA! HOW COULD YOU HAVE DONE SUCH A THING!’

‘Minerva, please calm down. I have no clue what you’re talking about.’

‘OH, YOU KNOW VERY WELL! THAT MISSION WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS EVEN FOR THE MOST EXPERIENCED WARRIOR! YOU SENT HER THERE KNOWING VERY WELL WHAT WOULD HAPPEN! HOW COULD A SINGLE GRIFIX EVEN SURVIVE AN URSA MAJOR?!’

‘It pains me to see that you think I would do such a thing. She wanted to be a warrior, I just treated her like any other. All warriors get sent into dangerous missions now and then. It’s up to them to come back alive. I regret her death as much as you.’

‘LIAR! I KNOW VERY WELL WHAT YOU WERE THINKING! IT IS FUTILE TO DENY IT! And you know that as well, so why don’t you just kill me already like you do with everyone who stands in your way?!’

‘Oh, you know very well I cannot do that Minerva dear. If I would kill you your egg would die as well. I can’t kill the next queen now, can I? I need you to stay alive. At least until your daughter’s life will not depend on yours anymore.’

‘Tsk, you disgust me. She was thinking of you as a friend, you know that? Well, not that it would matter to you or anything.’

The mare turned around and stormed out of the room. At the sign of the Queen, two guards followed right behind her. The Queen looked after them with an expressionless face.
