Dark Woods was the second and last healer to serve under Umbra and the first healer to serve under Queen Rosa. Dark Woods was chosen to become a healer when she hatched from her egg, tumbling into her mentor’s paws and her mentor sensing a strong magic coming from her and saw the stars were aligned properly since Dark Woods was born during the night.
By the age of 3, Dark Woods parents left Dark with the healer to start helping her out by carrying herbs and empty potion bottles around and handing them to her mentor. When she became 5, she spent all day every day with the healer before she moved into the healer’s hut fully at the age of 12, getting her sphirix and suddenly starting to hear things more and more. She tended to the big fire in the center of the village and made sure it continued to burn.
The healer gave Dark a mask made of owl fluff and she wore it for a long time, cherishing the gift she got from her beloved mentor. As days pasted and Dark learned more and more, starting to make potions and the herbal smoke burning her eyes, Dark beginning to lose her eyesight.
One day the healer had went out to pick herbs and potion supplies while Dark stayed back in the village and tended to some warriors who got hurt in a battle with a Timberwolf. When her mentor returned she had a strange mushroom in her basket and Dark was unsure of this mushroom. “Look Dark, I felt around today and found this strange new mushroom I’ve never felt before. We could learn how to use this mushroom in our healing!” The healer said excitedly, sticking the mushroom into a potion bottle and closing it shut so it would stay fresh.
At this point in time, Dark was almost fully blind, but was able to see this strange mushroom. She had a bad feeling about this mushroom and was glad the mushroom was stuck in a potion bottle. “Please don’t take that mushroom out of the bottle, I have a bad feeling about it..” “Oh come on Dark Woods, you are too protective and unsure of things sometimes.”
“I care for the well-being of the village, that’s why the way I am.” Dark said before walking back to sorting herbs and potions on the wall, going silent.
That night Dark prayed to the ancestors and stars that she hoped that she was right about her mentor’s strange new finding. “Please great ancestors, please let this new ingredient not be danger to us all..” She said before heading back inside the hut to get some sleep, but her mind was racing on that new plant.
A few days passed and suddenly a cry for help was heard from outside the hut.. and the healer had went out to help a elderly grifix. Dark Woods ran out and saw her mentor laying on the ground and looked very pale and discolored, her dark coat had become a dark grey. The Forgotten Queen had come to see what was going on, seeing her healer lying on the ground. “What is going on here?” “Miss. Queen, she just fell over and is very weak.” A grifix said before Dark Woods spoke up. “It was that damn mushroom.” “The what? What mushroom?” The queen asked as Dark ordered for some guards to help carry her mentor back to the healer’s hut, going and explaining to the queen about the strange mushroom her mentor spoke of. “Help her, Dark Woods.” The queen said, Dark nodding and running back to the hut and hoping and praying she could do something to save her beloved mentor.
Dark Woods spend countless days and nights trying to find a cure for this mushrooms disease, deciding to name it herself.. The Sphix. She wore her mask while she worked as well as leather gloves as she didn’t want to touch or come in contact with the Sphix mushroom, her mentor starting to become weaker and paler with each passing day until suddenly her gems started to turn green with purple spots.. this wasn’t good. Dark had to do something fast before it was too late, some of the grifix her mentor came in contact with was starting to become ill.
Dark finally mixed up a potion that she poured onto a piece of the Sphix and it started to wither. "This might be it!" she thought as she made multiple potion bottles full of the correct amounts for all the grifix. She gave the cure to the grifix, and checked on them regularly until two days later they were all healed. But her mentor hadn't made it. Even with the cure, she was too far gone. The fungi was successfully extirpated from her body, but the infection had took its toll on her - and when Dark headed to check on her she was gone.
Dark started to tear up at the sight of her healer lying dead in front of her, knowing she had to keep an open mind. “I‘ll save our village! For you!” She said before running out and curing all the Sphix ill grifix, being happy she could save everyone.. well.. almost everyone.
Dark Woods became fully blind the day after she cured everyone as well as the new healer of the village, but after a few years of being a cunning and beloved healer to the Forgotten Queen.. the queen passed away as well, and King Umbra took the throne.
Dark Woods disagreed with Umbra’s ways and how poorly he treated his subjects, especially when he mind controlled them. A grifix should never have to live a life in misery. She knew she had to follow the King’s orders and wishes, but with what happened to her mentor in the past, she couldn’t bare to see anyone suffer.
When Umbra captured the deer and threw them in the dungeons, Dark hated the sight of them being injured and not being able to be treated, she saw the magic of the grifix that were captured fading and their Sphirix’s being miserable. She knew her next decision was going to be against her healer ways, but she couldn’t deal with it. She gave up on the Stars’s guidance and ways, always telling them she couldn’t see others suffer by the cruelty of the King.
Dark Woods would sneak out at night and heal the wounds and feed and give water to the prisoners, and they were all grateful for her kindness. She knew she was a traitor now, but she had to use her teaching from her mentor for good.
