OUT-4: Pond Scales

Pond Scales is a strange creature living in the lake close to the grifix village. She’s probably very old, the first legends about a fish pony in that lake dating back to Queen Rosa, but she might be even older. She’s the only one of her kind. Even though she’s so old, she’s rather naive and childish than wise. She’s very naive and not very smart. She’s playful and doesn’t have a care in the world.

However, she spends most of her time deep in the lake so she’s hard to spot. Sometimes she does come out, and if it happens to see any creatures around she would talk to them. She’s very friendly and nice to everyone (she also understands what animals talk). Strangely, she can see the grifix and sometimes enjoys talking to the fillies and other Grifix wandering around (happens rarely so the Grifix don’t know much about her, but they enjoy talking to her too).

When she’s deep in the lake she talks to the little fish (but those forget pretty much everything soon after they talk). If one of her “friends” gets attacked by a bigger fish that would want to eat them, she chases them away.

One time when she was swimming around the lake she met with Ocean Spark. Because of the cloudy water, they couldn’t see each other only when they got face-to-face and they scared each other pretty bad. Ocean remembered of the legend the old grifix were telling about a lake spirit and thought it was her, but Pond thought that Ocean was another water pony and she got very happy thinking that she’ll have a friend living in the lake with her. Eventually she found out that Ocean was just a grifix that loved to dive in the lake, but they still befriended and now Pond often helps Ocean to collect beautiful shells on the lake shore. If she finds a beautiful rock or shell on the bottom of the lake she always takes it in a special place on the shore where Ocean can find it.

She’s very scared of hippogriffs and griffons, thinking that because some birds eat fish, the bird-ponies would eat fish-ponies too. One time a hippogriff that was wandering through the forest saw her and tried to approach her, but she panicked and ran in the water. Since then, that hippogriff kept coming looking for her. She’s sure he wants to eat her and she’s kinda scared to get out of the water now, but she still does it sometimes, but just after making sure there is no dangerous bird-horse around.

Because the Grifix don’t know much about her, over the time her existence became a legend the old grifix tell at the campfire. The legend is called “The Spirit of the Lake” and it sounds like this:

“There is a strange fish-like pony living in the lake. A mysterious but friendly creature, whom if you meet would talk to you. Chat a bit with her and tell her a story and she will be pleased and you will have good fortune for the year to come.”
