Found and raised by a Unicorn named Angel, he never knew who his real parents were. Not even Angel knew who Hackberry's parents could've been. He was renamed as Mahogany once taken in by Angel.
Hackberry doesn't know that his actual name is Hackberry. He believes his name to be Mahogany because of he believes Angel to be his real mother. Not knowing what really happened the day he was found.
Having no spiritual connections with his fellow deer, he doesn't fully understand himself and many other things within Equestria and further. Which is why he doesn't understand how he can come across The Grifix but still feel disconnected.
He's a joyfully and curious deer but still somewhat naive and complicated when it comes to emotions. Believed to have ADHD as well, Hackberry can't always keep his attention straight and losses focus, although his form of ADHD isn't full in scale so he's able to concentrate a little but easier than others. Still capable of losing focus and going on a tangent like many more with ADHD.
