Fernbeak was a cub running around the early camp of the Lost Tribe when he used to hang around old Bluebell, and she would teach him the ways of healing. He was too young to be of much help to the other healers and Bluebell had been somehow shut out by them cause of her age... But she knew everything better than everyone, and taught him secrets no other healer knew.
One of those secrets was the sphirix shape potion. Bluebell never told it to no one but Fernbeak. So when she died, they all freaked out - a grifix's life depended on that potion. How could she had taken it to her grave?
Fernbeak had to work very hard to earn the other healers' trust and respect, cause this was before Yantarka became the Priestess, and the Lost Tribe was a rule less place. The healers were angry at Bluebell for keeping secrets from them, and they hated him for refusing to share her secrets with them... But he didn't keep such secrets cause he didn't want them to know - he just knew there was a better way to be found instead of the painful and scary Sphirix Shape Ceremony. He knew he couldn't trust anybody, and only through his actions could he earn their respect.
He created the potion used in the Sky Falling Ceremony, which earned him the respect of the other grifix, and he was named mentor of the healers. The healers didn't have much saying in this - and he could feel they were upset. It was a choice made by the rest of the tribe, without asking them. So Fernbeak refused to be the only mentor, and picked out three other skilled healers.
Fernbeak became the Water Mentor: he taught the healers the ways of the water: There is no healing without water. Be it to clean a wound properly, prepare a potion or even just to be able to tell when one is dehydrated, water plays an essential role in healing, and every healer must know how to use it.
The other mentors were the Earth Mentor, Sky Mentor and Fire Mentor. For once, the Tribe felt at peace to him - nobody blamed Bluebell anymore, nobody picked on him no more... But the peace was short to last...
