Amber Fang used to be a sunfallen maid to a previous queen, whom she loved much, cause she treated her very kind. When she became the queen's maid she was just 10, and the queen was 15, having just become the queen. The queen would tell her stories and explain to her how the tribe was ran. The queen was just a child, so she was just discovering all now. She would often cry when she made mistakes or couldn't solve an issue or save someone. Yet when Amber cried about something, she would drop everything to comfort her. The other sunfallen maids were older, and had already served the previous queen, so they all looked down on Amber, telling her she had to stop being so weak, and not let her personal problems slip out while working. The queen thought that was rubbish. They were just a bunch of kids forced to grow up faster than anyone should. It was unfair - she said. After the old maids left, new ones joined, once again they were just some scared kids, and the queen treated them so kindly. Amber did her best to do so too, being the oldest one now.
When time came for Amber to retire from the sunfallen maid position, knowing that life would be hard for her, the queen insisted that she'd remain a maid for a bit longer, while she would try to find Amber a husband. Amber Fang was very thankful to her for that.
The queen met with an important Starfallen grifix, a male who had his spouse pass away recently. She bargained with him, and likely promised him something, Amber would never know what, but he agreed to marry her.
The queen kept visiting Amber all the time, even after she was no longer a sunfallen maid. Everyone looked down on it, but Amber didn't care. The queen was her only friend. Her husband never seemed to mind it, so she thought it was alright...
Soon after marrying, Amber and her husband had an egg. When their daughter hatched, they named her Gilded Sunset, and she was chosen to become the next Starfell maiden. It was then that Amber started to feel like her husband was hiding something. He kept making decisions for Gilded without asking her, and he would visit her constantly, insisting that he would be alone with her. It was almost as if he tried to keep Amber away from Gilded Sunset. As Gilded grew older, it felt as if she hated her mother, and didn't want to be around her. Amber was never able to develop a bond with her own daughter, which pained her very much.
One evening, when Gilded was a bit over 15, the Queen came over for some tea, as usual. Amber's husband insisted that he would make their tea, which was unusual, but Amber decided to ignore it. They talked about their struggles and other stuff, then the queen left. That night, the whole tribe woke up, alarmed. The queen was dying. The sunfallen maids let nobody but one of the healer elders next to her. He said that he would not be able to save her, that she was too far gone, so it was time for her to say her goodbyes.
In her last moments, the queen called for Amber Fang. She was quickly led by the guards to the queen's tent, and left alone with the queen.
"I'll soon be gone, Amber... " the queen whispered weakly. "You have always been by my side..."
The queen reached out to Amber's face and gently held her. "Take care..." she whispered, then gently placed a kiss on her lips.
"Do not forget." were her last words before she died.
Amber didn't understand the gesture, it didn't feel like something the queen would do. There was certainly something behind it. She thought later that night, waiting for the night to pass.
Eventually she fell asleep, having nightmares of the recent events. When she woke up, she felt sick, and when she tried to stand up she passed out. Next thing she knew, she woke up in the tent of the healer who had treated the queen last night.
Asking what happened, she was told that she had been poisoned with the same poison as the queen, but a much smaller dose. She would pull through, but the cure was a potion made of scorpion venom, which reacted with the poison and had some side effects, one of them being permanent red marks on her skin.
Once she was healed, she went home and stared in the mirror. A big, red mark covered half of her face.
"Do not forget." she whispered to herself.
It was then that she understood everything. It was her husband that had poisoned the queen. The queen kissed her knowing that some of the poison would stick to her lips... and the antidote would leave her with a permanent mark on her face, that would forever remind her of that night.
That week, the king married the Starfell Maiden, as he was supposed to do if the queen passed away. That's when Gilded Sunset became queen. 15 years later, the king died under similar circumstances, and Gilded Sunset's son took over the throne. Amber's husband, Boreal Woods, finally had full control over the Tribe. And it was then that the Tribe started to suffer...
Basmu's reign was a hard one for the Tribe. All resources would go to the king and his family, and the tribe struggled to survive.
When Basmu's son, Drakon, reched 9 years old, Basmu's wife reached out to Amber and they started to plot together to overthrow Basmu. When Drakon was old enough, he killed his father and became the next king.
Amber was 60-something by then. All that time, she had never forgotten, being constantly reminded by the mark on her face.
