[Lo-W] The Great Northern Lightbird (Create a Bird Species Challenge)
The Great Northern Lightbird (Septentrionaliumlux cristatus) is a large bird rarely found in the snowy mountains of the Frozen North. They are believed to be part of the peacock family, however this is largely debated due to their ability to fly and strict carnivorous diet. Lightbirds have an average wingspan of 4.2-5.1 meters when outstretched and tower over any grifix. They primarily are covered in light blue feathers, with darker small snowflake shaped feathers dotted about on their face, neck, chest, wings and legs. They have a fluffy chest used both for warmth and for display during the breeding season. They have a blue and green crest on their heads, with smaller feathers poking out of it. Their tail is large and have two long feathers on each side, both made of blues, pinks, greens and yellows. The outer feathers of their wings are dark blue with an electric blue pattern going across, mimicking the Northern Lights. Their diet mainly consists of small voles, rabbits and other animals that they manage to catch. They are nocturnal. During the breeding seasons, they will use their colourful feathers and a dance to impress their mates, they must find the best one. They mate for life, when their partner dies they will not find another one. Often if that happens, they can die from heartbreak. These birds are rare because they will only lie one egg during the whole year, so their population is limited. They are very protective of their mates and their young.
They are a legend among the grifix, for it is a rare sight to see one. It is believed that whenever they fly, the Northern Lights trail behind them. It is also believed that their feathers have magical properties, green feathers can heal any illness or injury, blue feathers can bring you good luck, but the ones sought out the most is the electric blue feathers from their wings, which can grant any wish. Due to this, too eager hunters seek them out, to kill these magnificent birds and take the precious feathers which they will either hoard, or sell, and then keep the bird's corpse as a trophy. However one must be warned, for if the bird's blood is on your paws, endless unfortunes will come to your lineage and you will be cursed.
