It was long before any grifix walked the paths of the Everfree Forest, long before any deer set foot in that place, it was even before the Forest’s trees dared to grow on that ground, a pony with her daughter lived there, alone. They had a lovely little garden where they raised all sorts of flowers and vegetables, and a small pond right near their house.

One day, a stranger knocked at their door. It was a tall dark mare, with long wavy red hair. She wore a long dark cape that covered her back so at first the mare living there though she was a unicorn. The stranger asked for shelter for the night, so the mare let her in. However, the dark mare stayed there for more than one night.

After a few months, the mare living there couldn’t resist her curiosity anymore so she started asking questions about the stranger. The stranger warned her that she wanted to know too much and curiosity isn’t good and will one day be punished. The mare was a bit scared so she stopped asking questions for a while, but not for long. Her curiosity consumed her so she went asking the stranger again. Then, the dark mare told her who she was. She told her all kinds of stories, but the mare always wanted to hear more. What the dark mare was telling her was an incredible knowledge and she was thirsty for more. But one day, the dark mare told her that she had nothing left to tell her, and then she left.

Not long after, in a night, the mare had a terrible dream. She dreamt of dark vines spreading all over her house, spreading over her garden and over the fields. Huge trees growing covering everything, turning the sunny fields she lived on into a dark, cursed forest. The water of her pond turned dark and sucked her and her daughter in. It got into her eyes, ears and nose, covering all her senses, making her blind. She couldn’t breathe anymore. She might have been crying, but she couldn’t tell. She tried to scream, but the dark water choked her. She tried to wake up, but just to find out that all she dreamed was reality. The only difference was that she could breathe underwater.

She knew that what happened was her punishment. She wanted to know too much, and despite being warned she kept seeking knowledge that wasn’t for the mortals. Now she paid the greatest price, and she was sealed in a place where nobody could reach her knowledge.

“This universe… isn’t it wonderful how it balances everything?” She thought to herself, accepting her fate.
