The two colts left the tribe chatting friendly. It wasn’t too often that they got to spend time together, hunting carelessly like that. Since Forest Fang got chosen as a scout, he and Drakon got to spend less time together. Forest Fang was Drakon’s best friend, they always used to be together when they were kids. Drakon used to often run away from his family’s tent, hating the scent of alcohol and the pervert words his father shouted to his mother when he was drunk. Then he would go at Forest Fang’s family tent and spend time with him. Sometimes Fang’s parents let him sleep with them, since he was too disgusted to go home (which the adults often interpreted as ‘scared’, but he wasn’t scared, he was disgusted. He wasn’t scared by anything, but he hated the feeling of disgust as much as others hated fear).

‘Hey… Drakon…’ said Fang, looking as if he was trying to change the subject. ‘What do you think about… What the first warriors want us to do? You know… find the village and slaughter them and all…’

‘What kind of question if that, you know very well what I think about that. They are our gods, we have to follow their will. And who doesn’t or opposes it… should be slaughtered as well. What? Do you perhaps think differently?’

‘Hhah… of course not… their will is what all mortals should follow right? Never thought of anything else… heh…’ Spoke Fang nervously. Drakon found it a bit weird the way he said that but he decided to ignore it. He didn’t want to believe that his best friend would be one of those who didn’t believe in the first warriors’ will. He didn’t want to believe that his best friend would be as low as his father.

But from that time, Forest Fang acted a bit strange. He seemed to grow apart from him and acted as if he was hiding something from him. Still, he seemed to grow brighter and more reconciled with himself, as if he found the true values of his life. Drakon didn’t know what to believe about this change, so he decided to ignore it for the time being...
