Stonebite
The Forbidden Colony Lore
Stonebite is an illess that often occurs on trifix at young ages.
It is caused by an infestation of very tiny bugs, most being invisible to the naked eye, which cause the wood to become permanently petrified. Stonebite bugs are atracted to very fresh and young wood, which is why this never occurs in older trifix.
It is yet unknown how to get rid of stonebite bugs. They leave on their own in 2 to 3 weeks since the condition occurs, but by the time they leave the trifix's wood is permanently petrified.
This does not affect the trifix in any negative way, except for iching while the bugs are present. Once they are gone, the trifix will not be bothered at all by this condition, but they will be covered in stone instead of wood for the rest of their life.
Flora can still grow on the petrified wood.
It is highly contageous while the bugs are preent, so most cubs remain at home while they are sick with this, so they don't infect the rest of the cubs with stonebite bugs.
