The Forbidden Colony

settlement (grifix) inside The Everfree Forest

Can be home to characters.

Description

The trifix are a subspecies of grifix that evolved in the darkest, deepest part of the Everfree Forest. They reside in a settlement called the Forbidden Colony deep in the forest. The settlement has been founded and is still ruled by Queen Oracle, the first Trifix, around 550 years ago. They seek to get revenge on those who have wronged Oracle in the Everfree Village.
The Everfree Grifix are unaware of this threat lurking close in the woods.

Story

The history of Trifix dates back to the reign of Queen Rosa. As a new Queen was born and Rosa was showing what a Queen does and should do, history has been told that Eclipsa was the only one present.

That. Was. A. Lie.

History in fact was very much different. This particular Grifix being erased from time, erased from the books, erased entirely away from Grifix history.

Not a soul remembers that Eclipsa once had a sister whose name was Oracle.

As Eclipsa was black as night; quiet and regal, Oracle was a Grifix of white. She was playful, friendly, and a very beautiful Grifix. You see…Eclipsa was never meant to be the Queen at all in the first place, as the Ancestors had chosen Oracle to be the rightful hier.

Rosa spent much time with Oracle, and in turn, Eclipsa had also learned and observed being the sister. Oracle pleaded and wished that Eclipsa at least stay with them in the Castle, so Rosa agreed and allowed Eclipsa her own room.

As the years went on, Eclipsa would grow more and more jealous that Oracle was supposed to be Queen. Growing frustrated, sickened, and felt as if it was hers instead. The friendly nature of Oracle annoyed Eclipsa to the point that she never would leave her room in the Castle because Grifix would attempt to act as they did with Oracle towards her, and she hated it.

The week before Oracle was to be officially crowned, the soon to be Queen vanished with no trace.

Oracle was soon erased from the grifix history.

Traits

The trifix are a subspecies of grifix that evolved in the darkest, deepest part of the Everfree Forest.
After years of evolution and dark nature taking over, Trifix are a stronger version of Grifix. In addition to their powerful phyique, the magic of the forest combined with their sphirix magic makes their magic mush stronger as well.
Trifix evolved under the same magical influence as timberwolves, hence their resemblance to those. They are always covered in wood and other vegetal traits which gives them their unique appearance.

Like Grifix, Trifix eat meat and flora like berries and such. In need of food, trifix will also kill sentient creatures, such as deer, but that is a rare occurance since their Queen forbid such a thing.

Because of the very rough terrain and close quarters of the forest, Trifix have grown and evolved to be more agile than regular Grifix.

Hierarchy

Each grifix has vines with special leaf shapes, the leaf shape determining their role in the Colony.

Trifix can change their faction. What they do is cut the vines and seek Oracle. She'll let them in a special room where they'll "talk" to the forest and express their wish. Soon, new vines will start to grow. It's not exactly common but it still happens every so often even though most Trifix are completely happy with their role that they initially chose.

The Everlasting Monarchy

The Everlasting Queen

The Everlasting Queen rules over all Trifix, her word is above all.

She oversees the Sphirix ceremony when a Trifix returns from seeing and completing The Wise Ones trial, the "Trial of Ancestors". • Organizes most of the holidays and traditions that Trifix participate in, especially "Día de Luto", which she organizes herself.

During the "Year of the Lion" she appoints a Substitute Monarch while she goes away to The Wise One and goes into a deep sleep so she may regain power and magic after using so much at a time.

She is immortal much like the Everfree Village Queen, though unlike her, she refuses to step down for any given reason. Having lost her right to ruling the Grifix because of her dear sister, Eclipsa, she feels at home sitting at the Trifix throne.

Oracle trains many soldiers and guards on how to properly use their Timberwolf halves in combat and the magical abilities as well. The Captain trains them physically with technique, tactics, weaponry, and more.

Oracle has two Royal Guards, named the "Everlasting Guards", that are always on duty to occupy her. One of the guards is considered the strongest Trifix other than herself, while the other Trifix is considered the fastest one among them all.

The Everlasting Prinx

Oracle's only true child. If Oracle was to die in someway, this child would immediately be given the title of Queen/King, firmly taking Oracle's place.

Oracle's true child has much of the same authority as she does. They can command all the soldiers, guards, Trifix, and hunters. However they cannot command the Royal Guards or The Wise One as only Oracle has such a permission.

The Wise One

The Wise One is an old Timberwolf that has only ever been seen by Oracle. He watches over the Trifix when Oracle is in her deep sleep as to make sure the substitute ruler isn't abusive over their power, as well as overlook the young Trifix getting their Sphirix during their trials. He lives deep in a vine covered cave. He's much older than any average Timberwolf wolf as well, almost matching Oracles age (he's older than her still however).

He doesn't physically interact with the Forbidden Colony, but he communicates with Oracle via magic if anything is wrong, if a Trifix has completed their trials, or to give warning on rest.

Substitute Monarch

Takes on Oracle's duties during the Year of the Lion. Is decided by battle.

Cannot order neither Oracles or Rabbits Everlasting Guards nor the normal royal guards. Oracles Everlasting Guards order the Royal Guards instead. The Substitute Monarch cannot conduct the Trials of the Ancestors, or give orders to The Wise One or Oracles children.

Oracle will return to the village however if she gets news that the substitute ruler is being ignorant, arrogant, cocky, or disrespectful. The Wise One keeps watch as Oracle rests.

Fenrir Guards

Everlasting Guards

Four Trifix personally picked by Oracle to be hers and the Prinx's personal guards.

They are the two strongest Trifix of the village, and the two fastest Trifix of the village. They protect Oracle and Rabbit at all costs.

Oracle's two guards protect her even during her deep sleep, the Prinx's two guards stay with them during this time as Oracle rests.

Royal Guards

Protect the Castle by any means necessary.

They live in the Castle so that they can always be on guard and prepared with as little travel as possible.

Elders

Retired grifix that spend most of their time hanging around telling stories to younger grifix and watching cubs when the parents are busy. They served the Colony their entire lives, so they are highly respected now.

As the trifix grows old, their vines become orange/grown-ish as they wither. Elders keep the same vines they had throughout their life, but they are withered.

Fenrir Warriors

Soldiers and Rangers, they train to attack the village. They are great, powerful figters, led by their Captain.

Fenrir Medics

Trifix that are quite powerful and have extremely extended knowledge about plant life, medicines, and remedies. Under the lead Medic, there are Military Medics, that take care of the warriors' health, and civil medics taking care of the rest of the trifix.

Artmasters

There are seven "arts" known in the Forbidden Colony. The artmasters spend their life performing their "art" and providing for the Colony. These arts are Gardening, Cooking, Astronomy, Metal crafting, Leather crafting, Glassblowing and Beekeeping.

Fenrir Hunters

Hunters and Scouts. They work together to find food for the colony, be it flora such as berries, nuts, and fruits, or fauna, for meat.

Hunters are born as hunters and they can NOT change their role.

Cubs

Grifix that haven't gotten their set sphirix shape yet. They spend their time playing with each other and listening to the elders' stories.

Cubs do not have hair vines.

When a young Trifix turns 13, their vines grow in but before that at age 12 their asked what they want to do. Whatever they say, the forest hears it, and the vines will grow.

History

Oracle was the soon to be queen of the Everfree Village when her sister, Eclipsa, tricked her into getting lost in the Forest, which led to Oracle falling prey to a pack of Timberwolves. She hardly escaped, and would've been dead if not for the Wise One, a sentient timberwolf, healing her. For a while since then, the Everfree Village kept sending out search patrols to find Oracle, but they often ended up severely hurt by timberwolves, disappearing in the Forest. In reality, Oracle and the Wise One would save them from certain death by turning them into trifix, and so they stuck around Oracle, becoming the First Trifix. Over the course of 500 years, Oracle and these grifix absorbed the magic of the Everfree, turning into what the trifix are today. Oracle is the only one that is immortal, but the descendants of the First Trifix became the trifix of today.

Culture

For trifix, family is most important. Trifix always value passing down their culture to the young and honoring members of their family and comunity, even those two have passed. They always look up with respect at their elders and superiors, and value honor.

Holidays and celebrations play a big role in the trifix's life. Such celebrations often take up the entire day, and nobody works during this time as it is seen to be disrespectful to ignore your loved ones during such special times.

Family

Trifix have a high respect for their ancestors and elders. Family is valued as priceless and should always be the priority, aka "Familismo": dedication, commitment, and loyalty to your family (both immediate and extended family).
Respecting the ones before them, caring after them, and even asking for help and advice. It's why that when an elderly Trifix dies, the entire village mourns and go on to celebrate the life of said Trifix by worshipping what values they gave to the community and the future.

When it comes to ancestors, the trifix have the same beliefs as the Everfree Village. They believe that those trifix watch over them and will always send their help when the living are in need.

Iron

Iron to a Trifix is very dangerous and lethal. Because of their Timberwolf counterparts and the heavy magic surrounding them, iron can severily hurt trifix if they come in touch with it, therefore nearly all known iron has been destroyed to prevent any type of harm. When iron comes in contact with a Trifix, it severely burns them. Iron poisoning is among the top, and most brutal, reasoning behind a Trifix death.

Some iron pockets and stray pieces still exists because it became too dangerous to try and get rid of it, so Queen Oracle gave an order to cease all destruction of the mineral as to not lose any more Trifix.

Calendar

The trifix have a time cycle of 9 years, which determines the time for holidays and special events. Each year is assigned an animal, as follows: Lion, Salamander, Hawk, Deer, Wolf, Owl, Moth, Fox and Snake.

The Year of the Lion is the most important of all, marking the begining of the cycle. During the Year of the Lion, Oracle retreats into her deep sleep in order to regain her strength, while a Substitute Monarch is chosen through battle to take her place until she returns. The Wise One will keep watch over the Colony during this time, and if the Substitute Monarch misbehaves or abuses their power Oracle will return.

Holidays

Every year, six Trifix are chosen to be the eventmasters. They often, though not always, work with the Queen to set up events and help organize holidays and traditions that happen.

The trifix have many holidays, out of which the most important are Dia De Luto, a holiday to honor those who have passed, the Trial of the Ancestors, through which young grifix gain their set sphirix shape, and the events leading to the Year of the Lion.

See more about the holidays here.

Stonebite

A common trifix disease that only occurs on cubs but it's effects remain for the rest of their lives.

Gemweaving

Gemweaving is a traditional practice used by trifix in order to decorate their wood. It involves placing a crystal, jewellery, gems, gold pieces or anything of this kind into a wound made into the tree bark covering their body, and letting the wood grow around it, embedding it inside.

The Village's Appearance

The Trifix live in the deep dark areas of the Everfree Forest, hiding far away from the Everfree Village. The Colony is slightly bigger than the Grifix Village, consisting of both huts and treehouses as homes for the trifix. A massive bonfire is placed in the center of the colony, typically used for celebrations and holidays part of their traditions. Despite being so far in Everfree, the colony is kept rather clean. Torches and candles keep the areas lit as they believe the pure darkness hides dark entities and magic that would steal their own magic. Around the edges of the village are large tower-like structures where specially appointed rangers are stationed for any reasons of attack; these rangers appointed by the Queen.

In the north, behind the Castle, some ways away, lives The Wise One. An old living Timberwolf who saved Queen Oracle from death when a pack of Timberwolves attacked her. Oracle told The Wise One many secrets about the Grifix and gave him a special powerful permission to conduct and observe young Trifix as they went through the trial for their sphirix shape.

Inside the village due west are the barracks, training grounds, and Arena. The Arena is where the final battle of Year of the Lion is held and where physical settlements for training purposes are held.

The magic barrier that their magic forms doesn't recognize other grifix's DNA and therefore also isolates them out, which it why the Trifix Village was never discovered by any Everfree Grifix.

Relation with Other Settlements

The Everfree Village - They know of its existence, but do not interact with it. There are plans to invade the Everfree Village at some point but no one knows exactly when or how.

The City of Thicket - They know of its existence, but do not interact with it. Trifix would eat deer, but stay aaway from them because of Oracle's orders.

The Lost Tribe - They do not know of its existence.

The Divided Grifix Camp - They do not know of its existence.

Ponyville and other pony settlements - They actively avoid pony settlements, but some troublemakers like to scare ponies if ventured to close.
