Starbeam Poppy

Miscellaneous

The Starbeam poppy grows in various dry lands across Equestria, being quite tricky to find. It grows in deserts, tundras, and pine forests but it tends to avoid jungles, wetlands, and other moist places. It is often found along the areas the Lost Tribe walk through.

Legend has it that this plant was born from a shooting star that fell from the sky into the dirt, being sent by the Tribe's ancestors to guide them to the Everfree Village. This is why if a scout is to find one, they will guide the tribe that way. If a grifix sees a shooting star, they believe a new star beam poppy wil, grow where it falls, so they report to the scouts where it fell.

This plant isn’t poisonous, but it is very hard to grow. Even if it has seeds, grifix never managed to grow them, so they believe it is impossible to grow from seeds, and can only grow from falling stars.

Appearance: The poppy looks like a star that has fallen from the sky, it has a glow to it and when plucked it’s light will dim slowly. It comes in a bright yellow and white color to look like the bright stars in the sky, but it's leaves are brown and dry, looking like dead leaves, with spiky edges.

Medical Uses: Due to this plant not being poisonous, the grifixes use this plant for healing properties. The petals and roots have different purposes for medicine. Because the grifix believe it is sent by the ancestors, they believe it's medical uses can only be activated through prayer, so healers always pray to the First Warriors for it to work. The prayers for this are taught by the sky mentor.

The petals on this flower are fragile, but when crushed up into a fine powder it can be put into many things. Some sprinkle the powder into water or any drink for the sick grifix to drink. The petals can help with headaches and nausea. They put the powder into a drink because the powder on its own tastes disgusting, plus when the powder is put into the drink it makes the drink glow while they drink it.

If the grifix want to use the roots of the plant for medical purposes the plant must be kept in a bowl of water and some dirt when it is picked so the roots can grow out and be big enough to break up and crush into powder. The roots are the most common thing used from this plant for creams and ointments. This part of the plant helps with sore bones and open wounds, being a common medicine given to the elderly grifix to help with weak bones but also to warriors that get wounded in battle. The cream and ointments glow when applied to the wounds or sore areas.

Some grifix decide to use this plant as a hair accessory, but because it is so important it is usually taken away. Because of that, it is common for fake starbeam poppies to be made out of fabric with light beans inside do they glow like the real plants, which grifix wear in their hair. Usually healers put it in their hair so they can easily take it out if needed. It is found to not dry if it's kept in the mane, because it absorbs the magic from the hair and uses it to stay alive.

It seems like the flower likes to feed on grifix magic, which may explain the strange trail of such flowers which the Tribe follows - and the reason why they never found the Everfree Village. The Lost Tribe leaves behind a magic residue which feeds the flowers for years. Then the Lost Tribe follows the flowers which grow from their old magic paths, meaning the Lost Tribe has actually walked on the same paths since the dawn of time, and because those paths weren't anywhere close to the Everfree Village they couldn't find it.

Other uses: It is used to make a special solution used in the Sky Falling Ceremony.
